Myths About Sexual Violence MYTH: The victim provoked it. TRUTH: 60-70% of all rapes are planned. Sexual Violence is about power not sexual attraction. It is not impulsive.
MYTH: Sexual violence only occurs in big cities. TRUTH: Sexual violence happens in large cities, rural areas, small towns and suburbs.
MYTH: Sexual violence is committed only by strangers. TRUTH: 82% of all rapes are committed by someone that the victim knows. Often it is a friend or family member (Department of Justice). |
