Community Outreach |
Education, presentations and speakers are available to the community agencies and other organizations in regards to domestic violence, dating violence, date rape, sexual assault, and the effects of domestic violence on children. (Other topics available upon request). When we meet with certain businesses we can provide technical assistance information, such as what to do about an employee experiencing Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault. Our meetings could also involve discussing appropriate screening techniques in places like the doctor’s office or the Emergency Room. We can do as little as just provide posters, brochures, and other such materials free of charge to any business that would like to display our information. If you are interested, please call or email our outreach coordinator. |

DoVES’ serves six different counties, Brown, Doniphan, Nemaha, Jefferson, Jackson, and Atchison. Jefferson and Jackson are shared counties, meaning those needing services in Jackson County can go to DoVES in Atchison or Battered Women’s Task Force in Topeka. Those in Jefferson County can go to DoVES or Women’s Transitional Care Services in Lawrence. Although those are the counties we serve, we accept clients from any area. So in order to let those in need of assistance know we are available funds were provided by State General Funding to hire Outreach Coordinators. There is one Sexual Assault Outreach Coordinator who travels to all six counties spreading awareness about Sexual Assault. There are two Domestic Violence Outreach Coordinators one travels to Brown, Doniphan and Nemaha Counties and the other to Jefferson, Jackson and Atchison Counties. We can assist victims in those areas by going to court with them or connecting them with resources in their area or just by coming to their town and visiting with them. But another large part of what Outreach Coordinators do is to meet with different businesses in our coverage areas to spread awareness and help them become a resource for victim’s that need our services. So surprisingly you may find our brochures at a veterinarian, salon, or a bank. Some other places we visit are healthcare professionals, attorneys, law enforcement, churches, post offices, and other businesses that make up a town. In turn, all those needing help can use their own town as a support system. |
The Outreach Coordinators also have what is called Satellite Offices in different towns in the counties Doves services. The offices are available so that persons needing help in those areas do not have to travel so far to get help. The Outreach Coordinator for that area will be able to talk with victims individually or do a support group depending on how many show up. Here are the locations and times of the offices: Brown County: In Hiawatha at the Morrill Public Library on Thursdays 10:30am-12:30pm Jefferson County: Will meet by appointment on Tuesdays between 10am-2pm at a public location (library, church, etc.) Nemaha County: In Sabetha at the United Methodist Church on Thursdays 1pm-3pm Doniphan County: In Troy at the Doniphan County Public Library on Thursdays 4pm-6pm Jackson County: Will meet by appointment on Thursdays between 10am-2pm at a public location (library, church, etc.) If you would like to meet and are within the counties DoVES services but can not get to the offices call and let us know that the timeframe or location will not work for you. We will try to find a better location or time that will work for both you and the advocate. *Please note: The offices are public so they may not be as confidential or safe as you may want, if this is a concern call us and we will try to find a different location.
